搖滾本事   Rock Story

Words and Music by Ashin

I hate to be myself
Naturally loving to be degenerate, and loving to do undoable dreams

(Every time I) Every time I start to dream, I hear a rhythm in my ears
My whole life I’ve been waiting, my whole life has been passing me by

Stop looking for excuses, stop being so bothersome

Because I’m me, my opponent is just me
Defeated, then shut down, there’s nothing left to say
Because I’m unwell, why are there so many idiots
Rock’s super ability must kill that rhythm

So give me rock’n roll, in my earphones it calms me down, its like my ears are eating spicy hot pot

(The guitarist) The guitarist starts his rhythm, I finally find freedom
My whole life I’ve been waiting, my whole life has been passing me by

Stop looking for excuses, stop being so bothersome

Because I’m me, my only opponent is me
Defeated, then shut down, there’s othing left to say
Because I’m unwell, why are there so many idiots
Rock’s fundamentals must kill that rhythm

This is just my story, this is just what I’m like

Notes:  Phrases in bold are in English in the original lyrics and are unchanged.  The biggest problem with this song is finding a word to capture the title, 本事.  本事 can mean ability, but it also can be used to refer to the plot of a play.  Here, it is not just ability, but something more fundamental – the core of his being, his personality.  So far, I can’t think of an economical way to express this in English - for the time being, I'm going with "story."  On the  "spicy hot pot" - the Mayday boys are infamous for their love of hot pot;  the dish also makes an appearance in  牙 關 Clenched Teeth.
