Forgotten Words

Words and Music by Ashin

What should I should I should I should I sing?   What should I should I should I should I do?

Hem, hem…. da la  I’ve remembered
It seems I seems I seems I seems I should speak   I so want so want so want so want to say to you

In front of you I become so clumsy, just like a singer who is always forgetting the words
I’ve practiced and rehearsed for this moment, still I can’t say anything

You, your gentleness has moved me   I’ve endured too long, been hurt too deeply
At this moment I really must say, even if I fail, I still can’t stay silent

You, your gentleness has moved me   I’ve endured too long, been hurt too deeply
In that second I was ready to risk it all, yet again forgot the words  I… oh, oh, oh!

It seems the first sentence relates to your description, it seems the next sentence is hoping for your reply
I’ve practiced and rehearsed for this moment, still I can’t say anything

Notes:  That “hem, hem” uses the character often used to represent the sound of clearing one’s throat (嗯嗯) and the character repeated in  “oh, oh, oh” (噢噢噢) is listed in my Chinese dictionary as “表示明白,了解的感喊詞” – a sound you exclaim when you understand something.  The only thing I don’t quite get is that “da la” -搭啦.  I’m assuming it is a stuttering sound.  Any ideas?

Ashin is himself quite famous - or should I say "infamous" - for forgetting the words when singing live, so this song's lyrics can be taken as an example of his self-deprecating humor.
